Music director: Shaan Rahman
Lyrics: Harinarayanan B.V. (Ee Kodamanjin), Manu Manjith (Raavumaayave) and Shan Johnson (Raavumaayave – Hindi lyrics)
Shaan Rahman ended 2015 on a great note with the funky Adi Kapyare Kootamani. The composer brought out his first soundtrack of 2016 a couple of days ago - Vettah. Directed by Rajesh Pillai, the movie has an ensemble cast with Kunchacko Boban, Manju Warrier, Indrajith Sukumaran and Sandhya in the lead roles.
Given the thriller tag, the movie has only two songs. Here goes the music review.
» Ee Kodamanjin (Shaan Rahman)
Shaan has lent his voice to most of the albums he has composed. The trend continues in Vettah and he picks a spirited number for himself. A song that is high on the adrenaline, Shaan applies his husky vocals to it effectively. The violins and the guitars provide the right backdrop for the song, not letting the intensity ware off. Shaan's apt rendition and quality programming that features heavy instrumentals work in favour of 'Ee Kodamanjin'.
» Raavumaayave (Rinu Razak & Shaan Rahman)
A soft duet sung by Rinu Razak and the composer himself, the number sets forth on a smooth sail and has to it the quality elements that Shaan is known for. The singing is lovely and Hesham Abdul Wahab does the backing vocals. The touch of harmonium and mild clapping sound in the backdrop enhance the charm of the song. Tabla by Anand is alluring. 'Raavumaayave' is a mellifluous number that will go well with a rainy evening.
Verdict
Shaan Rahman's songs in Vettah might sound strangely similar to his earlier tracks, but the man has delivered quality music yet again. 'Raavumaayave', our pick from this short album, can make you smile.
