Muvattupuzha: A python was caught from the courtyard of Sanishkumar, Puthenpurayil, at Valakam near here in Ernakulam district on Wednesday.

The snake was spotted by Sanishkumar in the evening and he called the Kothamangalam forest office. Forest officials sent Shinekumar M K, a range watchman of the department, to the spot and he caught the reptile by 9 pm. Shinekumar is known as Kothamangalam’s ‘Vava Suresh’ as he has already captured over 200 snakes, including 13 king cobras.

Shinekumar said he got a call from his office in the evening and when he reached Sanishkumar’s house the snake was curled up near the well in the compound.

Sanishkumar is PA to Muvattupuzha MLA Eldho Abraham.

He said the snake must have come to the house from the Muvattupuzha river flowing around one km away from the spot. The python was later handed over to the Kothamangalam forest office. It will be released into the forest soon.

Shinekumar has caught several snakes in the past and his this ability has landed him a job with the forest department. He is now the official snake catcher of the department and had caught king cobras from different spots in Ernakulam district.

The department had praised him on several occasions for his rare achievement.
