Seasons change and so should fashion!
It is beautiful when it rains, it is a blessed gift and it can even make you dance, but when you have to step out in the rains, the basic question arises. Are you rain ready? We have some tips to help you put your best foot forward even when it is pouring outside.
When you were in school, you really did not have much of an option. Uniforms are a must, come rain or shine, but now that you are in college or working it gets tougher.
Casuals are cool for this seasonIt is wise to keep aside the Anarkalis, Masakalis or the heavy embroidered dresses in the monsoons. Take out the gorgeous Chiffon tops & Georgette Kurtis from your wardrobe. They are materials that are in this season. Not fussy when it comes to getting wet and dries easily. Ankle length or Umbrella cut skirts are an excellent style statement for a rainy day. Do away with the layered long skirts or the traditional Pattu Pavada though. Go for skirts in dark shades like navy blue, which could be teamed up with a red or pink coloured top. Peach or orange are other colours that you can experiment with. Dark green skirt with black or maroon top is an option too. Checks or stripes pattern are great for a seasonal twist.
Whites, creams or off-white colours are not a smart choice during the rainy season. Cotton Kurtas or shirts are fine but make sure the colours don't run, before you think of wearing it out in the rains. Patiala bottoms are best avoided but if these are a must, then don't go for cotton ones. Chudi bottom or parallels are more rain – friendly.
Churidars come at ease during monsoonSome of the in-vogue shades for the monsoons include orange, dark-navy blue, red, aquamarine, browns, different shades of green, lemon-yellow, grey or violet. Black is an all-weather colour, so use it liberally!
Jeans is a favourite among the youngsters for any outing whatsoever. But getting wet in jeans is so not cool! It takes ages to dry and can get uncomfortable. For the cool guys, linen or corduroy are options to try for a change. If jeans is a necessity, then fold up the ends before venturing out.
Casual slippers are best during rainsFootwear is another element that ought to be considered with care when it rains. Leather, Kholapuris, or the glitter designer wear sandals are best left on the shoe racks this season. PU, fibre sandals are the best bet - they are comfortable, not slippery and come in every colour possible. Just ensure the slippers have a good grip to avoid falls.
Make up should be minimal and that too water-proof. Otherwise a single wash is enough for you to end up like a disaster.
Chiffon, Georgette or cotton sarees are easy to wear and light-weightAs for sarees, opt for the simple look. Say no to heavy jari borders or heavy works or even silks or Kanchipuram sarees. Chiffon, Georgette or cotton sarees are easy to wear and light-weight. Make sure the colours of your cotton sarees don't spread on getting wet. Single pleats are tedious to manage in the rains so pin up the pleats neat and tidy. Saree falls make the sarees more beautiful when worn and makes it last longer.
