She hails from the cultural capital of Kerala, Thrissur. The only daughter of college professors Ponnachan and Sisilamma, Keerthy Sophiya has begun to make her mark in the fashion industry as well. She is currently working as an Assistant Professor in the English department at St. Mary's College, Thrissur. However, the world of academics did not hamper her love for the camera.

“I had three career options – to become a teacher, chef or an actor. I chose to be a teacher and decided to pay utmost attention to academics,” said Keerthy.

When asked why she wanted to become a teacher, this is what she had to say, “my mother used to say that at the age of three I used to dress myself up as a teacher and teach my grandparents. So teaching is something that I inherited from my parents and they are my role models. I consider it as the best profession in the world because teaching is the only profession that teaches all the other professions”.

To Keerthy, teaching is not a mere job, it's her passion. Incidentally, while auditioning for the 'Face of Seematti', her students had helped her in selecting the appropriate garments and accessories.

Keerthi explained that it was her determination to explore the unexplored paths that led her to many modeling opportunities. “Ever since I was a child, I wanted to travel through paths that most people fear to explore. I always believed that difficult roads often lead to beautiful destinations. So I used to challenge myself to do things I fear to do. I wanted to try modeling when I was young, but I couldn't find a platform. So I decided to concentrate on my studies and then try my luck in other arenas. It was after getting a job at St. Marys College, Thrissur that I saw an avenue to try my hand at modeling. An advertisement about Seematti conducting auditions for customer models was published in the newspapers. I decided to apply for it and that decision changed my life forever. I was selected as the 'Face of Seematti'. It was literally a dream come true,” she said.

A memory to cherish

Keerthy had the rare opportunity of meeting ace fashion designer Sabyasachi Mukherji at the India Fashion Summit in Kerala this year. “It would remain a memorable day of my modeling career. I became his huge fan after watching him in the show 'Band Baaja Bride', and have been following his work ever since,” she commented.
