Manoj, an expatriate has built his dream dwelling at Thrikkakara near Kakkanad, Kerala. Though he had built a house at his home town in Punalur, it didn’t turn out the way the family had desired. Manoj had purchased a piece of land in Kakkanad as he wished to settle in Kochi.

Manoj admits it burned a hole in his pocket buying just 10 cents in Kochi where land costs a bomb. However, he wasn’t ready to compromise on the quality of the building materials by keeping a check on the expenses. So, he decided to furnish his house in stages so that he wouldn’t land in financial trouble. Currently, only the ground floor is furnished. Manoj’s children have just begun working after completing their education. The family plans to build an additional floor and design the landscape as they raise the budget in the future.

The elevation features a blend of flat and sloped roofs. Shingles are paved on the slope roof. The double height show wall in the façade has been highlighted beautifully. Car porch has been avoided.

Designed in 2610 sqft, this fabulous abode has a sit out, formal and family living areas, dining area, courtyard, four bedrooms and kitchen with work area. The flooring is done using vitrified tiles. The custom made furniture pieces perfectly suit the general theme of the house.

The formal living area has been arranged by ensuring enough privacy. Meanwhile, the family living area – dining space and the stairway are part of the open hall. The spaces are designed in the open style to make the house look incredibly vaster. Moreover, it ensures amazing ventilation and natural sunshine too.

The sliding glass door in the dining area opens to the patio. Cool breeze and pleasant sunshine enter the house if this door is opened. Besides, a cozy sitting space, adorned with beautiful indoor plants too have been arranged here.

The hand railings of the stairway are done in GI tubes. Storage spaces beneath the stairway make the house space efficient.

The open kitchen faces the dining area. The cabinets are made in multi wood with laminate finish. Meanwhile, the counter top has been paved with granite.

The bedrooms are bath attached and have in – built wardrobes and study tables.

Manoj says his brand new house has made him forget the dejection about his old house. Construction experts note that Manoj’s approach towards building an abode is truly laudable. Most people would borrow money from loan sharks or avail loans on huge interests when they run out of budget. This would land them severe financial crisis. Here, Manoj has been able to build a beautiful home with all the modern amenities without burdening himself with debts or loans. Proper planning and willingness to wait patiently until you have enough budget to add on features are the key to this.
