Exteriors of the houseSome houses have an aura about them, they begin to give you a sense of attachment, even before you step onto its veranda. This is one such house. Come to think of it, there is absolutely nothing that could stop you in your tracks on the exterior or interiors and this perhaps is the major highlight here.
The staircaseShankar Bhavan is located at Udayamperoor in Thrippunithura, Ernakulam district. The owner Mohankumar retired from the State Tourism Department. His eldest son Sathyanarayanan is the architect who designed the house and because of this, he was able to incorporate everything that the family wanted in the house.
There are a total of four bedrooms with attached bathrooms in the house. The sit-out leads to a spacious living room and there is a dining area adjacent to it. Outside the kitchen, there is a separate utility area with a servant’s room. On the first floor there are two bedrooms, a living space and a lavishly done home theater. An open terrace with deck makes the first floor even better. Over this truss roofing has been done, giving apt space for the roof.
The home theaterThe interiors ooze a sleek appeal all across the house. The kitchen especially is a work of art with an interesting color scheme and the cupboard design. Unique cladding tiles have been used on the wall of the kitchen counter-top. The railing of the staircase uses a combination of teak wood and stainless steel.
The kitchenThe flooring has been done with both vitrified tiles as well as granite. Top – quality sanitary fittings have been used in all the bathrooms. The family wanted the bedrooms and the drawing room to have a simple design and the family themselves were involved in the interior designing of the house.
CupboardsLike in many new-generation houses, there isn’t anything fancy about the ceilings. They have done way with showy decor elements and elegance was give top most priority. The main theme predominant in the interiors is the family’s favorite color – yellow.
