Kochi: In a bizarre incident, an 18-year-old who gave birth to a child in a Kochi hospital said that a 12-year-old impregnated her, forcing the police to take action against the minor boy.
Kalamassery police registered a case against the boy and also the private hospital for not reporting the incident to the police. The cops are planning to conduct a DNA test to find out the truth.
Meanwhile, the girl's family handed over the newborn to Child Welfare Committee, stating that they won't be able to look after the infant.
The girl became pregnant when she was two months below 18 years. Therefore, the boy has been charged under Section 70 of child rights law. However, hospital authorities claimed that the girl was of 18 years when she was admitted in the hospital.
Hospital officials added that they informed the Childline about the incident when they came to know that she was impregnated by the 12-year-old.
The hospital authorities handed over the related documents to Childline officials on November 4, when the girl was discharged from the hospital.
On the other hand, Childline, Kochi, director Fr Tomy said they had informed the Thrikkakara ASP about the incident.
However, Kalamassery CI Jayakrishnan said that the police was informed only a day after the girl gave birth to the child. A case is registered against the hospital authorities for their lapse in not bringing the matter to the attention of the police, he added.
