P. Krishnadas. File photoThrissur/Kochi: The Kerala High Court Monday came down heavily on the police for arresting chairman of Nehru Group of Institutions P. Krishnadas, who was nabbed for allegedly beating up Sahir, a student in Jawaharlal College of Engineering and Technology, Lakkidi.
"Don't try to fool the court. The police are raising allegations which the complainant doesn't have. An ulterior motive is suspected behind this move," the court observed.
Action will will be taken if the police move is found to be erroneous, the court said, adding that that it knows how to deal with police officials who try to fool the court.
Meanwhile, the court deferred considering Krishnadas' bail plea in the case to next Sunday.
Earlier in the day, Krishnadas was taken into custody by Thrissur rural police from PK Das Institute of Medical Sciences at Vaniyamkulam, Palakkad along with Lakkidi College PRO Valsalakumar, legal adviser Suchitra, administration manager Sukumaran and sports teacher Govindan Kutty.
According to the complaint filed by Sahir, Krishnadas had beaten him up for almost eight hours and threatened to trap him in a fake ragging case if he revealed the torture to anyone. This incident had taken place three days before the death of Jishnu Pranoy. The Kerala High Court had already granted anticipatory bail to Krishadas in the suicide death of Jishnu.
The body of 18-year-old Jishnu Pranoy, a first-year student at the Nehru College of Engineering, at Pampady in Thrissur, was found hanging in the bathroom of his hostel on January 6 after the college authorities allegedly harassed him.
The incident had triggered a series of protests across the state against managements of self-financing colleges.
