Kochi: Malayalam scriptwriter Hashir Mohammed has been sentenced to three-and-a-half years in prison in a rape attempt case.
The Ernakulam additional sessions court also slapped a fine of Rs 40,000 on him. Even though Hashir was convicted of various charges, the court said that all his sentences would run concurrently. In effect, he would be serving a jail term of two years.
The court also took into consideration his earlier clean record and his plea that he was the sole support of his aged parents.
Hashir is best known for his work in Neelakasham Pachakadal Chuvanna Bhoomi and the segment, Aami, in 5 Sundarikal. He was accused of trying to rape a neighbor at a flat in Maradu, Kochi, on February 28, 2015.
