Global cybersecurity meet to be held in Kochi in Oct

Kozhikode: The Kerala Police will host an international cyber security conference titled c0c0n XI on October 5 and 6 in Kochi.

Previously known as Cyber Safe, c0c0n is an annual event conducted as part of the International Information Security Day. This will be a platform to discuss, showcase, educate, understand and spread awareness on the latest trends in information, cyber and hi-tech crimes, said IG Manoj Abraham.

“c0c0n also aims to provide a hand-shaking platform for various corporate, government organisations. By fostering the collaboration of the public and private sectors, our goal is to conceive new, innovative counter-measures against cybersecurity threats and crimes against women. The number of digital security incidents and cyber-crimes are increasing daily on a proportionate rate. The cyberspace is demanding more and more security professionals and controls to curb this threat to information systems. The 11th edition of the conference is aimed at providing a platform to discuss and share new information and latest trends in cybercrimes across the world,” said the IG.

The Kerala Police will be supported by POLCYB (The Society for the Policing of Cyberspace) and ISRA, a registered non-profit organisation, in hosting the event. Various technical, non-technical, legal and community events will be organised as part of the programme. These will provide practical insights on how the cybercrimes get committed and the guilty get punished.

This conference, to be held at Hotel Hyatt, is specially designed for the IT Industry, government departments, banking institutions, public sector undertakings, and all managerial institutions that have an IT infrastructure. c0c0n offers 3 different tracks this year. The first one is a general track, where all the policy issues will be discussed. The second is a technical track and third is a live track where live demonstrations will be conducted on the use of various technologies, latest cybercrimes etc.

Around 1,500 delegates from 50-odd countries are expected to participate. There will be a pre-conference workshop on October 3 and 4 on the trending topics. A modern exhibition of cyber security, data privacy and digital threats also will be organised along with the conference.

The keynote speakers for the Conference include Dr Gulshan Rai, chief information security officer, and Canadian diplomat Adam Blackwell, who is the chairman of the World Economic Forum's Meta-Council on the Illicit Economy.

In the coming years, the c0c0n Conference aims to deal with issues affecting the local economy and to cover the other components of the enforcement system.
