Malappuram: Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has continued his tirade against the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML).
Addressing the Malappuram district conference of the CPM here Wednesday, Vijayan said the IUML “has clothed itself in the fabric of Jamaat-e-Islami”.
“They are trying to attain the radical ideas of SDPI. They are belittling, harassing, and mocking those who take a secular view of things,” Vijayan said.
He warned the League to be mindful of where they are headed. “We saw what happened to Congress. Their decay began when they stopped taking a firm stand against communalism. It is the same fate that will befall the League.
“A political party must have a secular stand. It should not try to align the public on the wrong lines. In the past, the League leadership misled its followers by saying several things. Now, the time has changed, everyone has every information. A lie won't last long, nowadays. Mothers and sisters will understand it easily because they have access to news. They must realise their old tricks won't survive now,” Vijayan added.
Reopening the Waqf issue
Pinarayi Vijayan has claimed the IUML that had hardly raised any objection to the Waqf Board appointments being handed over the PSC when it was discussed in the assembly are misleading the public now.
“When the Waqf Board decided to leave its appointments to the PSC, the state government agreed. When the matter reached the assembly, the only objection raised by a League leader was that those currently working there should not be ignored,” said Vijayan.
“But what is the League's stand now? They are attempting to stir up emotions by claiming something improper is about to happen,” Vijayan said, claiming his government was in no rush to implement the decision.
