Former US army captain with Kerala roots shot dead in Texas parking lot

Texas: A former American army officer with roots in Kerala was shot dead in the southwestern El Paso town in the Texas state of the United States.

Emmanuel Vincent Pakalomattom, alias Jaison, 44, died of gunshot on December 20.

As the victim was an army veteran the details of the incident were released only the other day.

Emmanuel was shot in a parking area in the town. The assailant too was injured though it is not known what caused it.

Since the investigations are continuing, the police have not given out details regarding the incident. The police are probing whether more people were involved in the incident.

Jaison's father Mani is based at their native pace in Kerala. His mother Elizabeth is however settled in the US. 

Emmanuel was selected to the Reserve Officers' Training Corps while he was studying at the University of Connecticut.

(The Reserve Officers Training Corps comprises university recruits who will be trained to become officers in the Active Army, Army Reserve and National Guard.)

He joined the armed forces soon after the completion of his education. He retired from the post of Military Captain in 2012.

As part of the US Army he served in Germany, South Korea and Iraq.

Emmanuel, a bachelor, was born in New York. 

His funeral service will begin at 11 am on January 7 at the St Thomas Syro Malabar Church in Hartford, the capital of Connecticut. It will be followed by burial with full army honours at the State Veterans Cemetery at Middletown in Connecticut.

Besides parents, Emmanuel leaves behind siblings Dr James and Jeffry.
