Ranjeet, Shan murders: 26 accused named in chargesheets, 333 witnesses

Ranjeet Sreenivas, the state secretary of the BJP’s Other Backward Classes outfit, OBC Morcha, and K S Shan, a state secretary of the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) who were murdered in Alappuzha.

Alappuzha: The chargesheets in connection with the murders of BJP leader Ranjeet Sreenivas and SDPI leader K S Shan were filed on Wednesday, nearly three months after the ghastly crimes.

The chargesheets pointed out that the two murders had taken place because of political rivalry. They bear the names of the main accused in the two cases.

The second chargesheet in these cases would be submitted soon, Deputy Superintendent of Police G Jayadev said.

Shan was murdered at Mannanchery on the night of December 18 last year, while Ranjeet was hacked to death at his house in Alappuzha town on the morning of December 19.

The chargesheet in the Ranjeet murder case was submitted before Alappuzha First-Class Magistrate Court, while that in the Shan murder case was filed before Judicial First-Class Magistrate Court (II) in the same town.

12 accused of Ranjith's murder

There are 35 accused in the Ranjeet murder case, but the chargesheet has been filed against 15.

The names of 12 accused who had directly taken part in the murder of Ranjeet are also in the chargesheet. They are: the first accused Komalapuram native Nizam, Ajmal of Mannanchery, Anoop of Vattayal, Mohammad Aslam of Aryad South, Abdul Kalam (Salam) Ponnad, Abdul Kalam of Mannanchery, Sahafuddin Salim of Mullath, Manshad of Mannancherry, Jaseeb of Iruvukkad, Nawaz of Kallupalam, Shameer of Valakunnu and Nazeer of Aryad North.

The chargesheet contains 890 pages. Over 200 documents and material objects have been submitted in the court in connection with the case.

There are 190 witnesses in the case.

21 accused of Shan's murder

Of the 21 accused in the Shan murder case, the chargesheet has been filed against 11 accused. Their names have not been disclosed publically as police fear it might affect the investigations.

This chargesheet contains 483 pages and more than 300 documents have been produced in the court.

There are 143 witnesses in the case.
