Pathanamthitta: Police have arrested a KSRTC bus driver, Nijilal, following a fatal accident at Muttumann, Pullad, which claimed the lives of a couple. V G Rajan (56) died at the scene, and his wife, Reena Rajan (53), succumbed to her injuries at the hospital.

The couple’s daughter and their three-and-a-half-year-old granddaughter sustained severe injuries and are undergoing treatment. The accident occurred on Monday near the canal bridge in Pullad.

The KSRTC bus, travelling from Thiruvalla to Pathanamthitta, lost control, struck the right-hand guardrail of the bridge, swerved into the opposite lane, and collided with the oncoming car.

Fire and rescue personnel from Thiruvalla, Koipuram Sub-Inspector S Shaiju, and residents carried out the rescue operation. Rajan’s body was retrieved from the mangled car, and the injured were promptly taken to the hospital for medical care.
