Tomy Thomas, the husband of Kerala nurse Nimisha Priya, who is on death row at the Central prison in Sanaa for the murder of a Yemeni national, said that no authority from the state or the Central government contacted him regarding the case.

"It is high time the government intervened and met with the family of the deceased Yemeni national. There is just one month left before the sentence can be executed. The discussion with the Yemeni family should be intensified. Nobody from the state or the central government has contacted me so far," said Tomy Thomas, who is now in Thodupuzha.

Tomy said that owing to the tense situation in Yemen, the process of demanding Nimisha's release, including the paperwork, was delayed.

"Now everyone should try together, meet with the family, and persuade them to accept the 'blood money'. Once they agree to the 'blood money', it will only be a matter of time before money can be arranged. But the thing is that they should be willing to do that," he said. The couple's daughter is studying in seventh standard and is now with Tomy.

Nimisha was found guilty of murdering Yemen citizen Talal Abdu Mahadi. She had chopped his body and dumped the parts in a water tank on July 25, 2017. Yemeni President Rashad Al Alimi on Monday upheld her death sentence. In a statement, the Ministry of External Affairs said that the Government is extending all possible help to the family of Nimisha Priya.
