Wayanad: Thirunelli police on Sunday arrested four individuals, including a woman, for smuggling 32.78 grams of MDMA at Bavali. The accused are NA Ashkar (27) from Karnataka and Wayanad natives PK Ajmal Muhammed (29), Ifsal Nissar (26), and M Muskana (24).

As MDMA is a lethal drug, possessing more than 10 grams is classified as a commercial quantity that attracts a penalty of 10 years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine.

The accused reportedly spent several lakhs to purchase the drug from Bengaluru and smuggled it into Kerala for internal use and sale.

During an inspection at the checkpost, police seized the MDMA and also confiscated a Maruti Swift car (KA 53Z 3754) used for trafficking. The drugs were found hidden in the car's dashboard, police said.

A police team, including Thirunelli Station House Officer Lal C Baby and Sub-Inspector Sajimon P, led the operation.
