Thiruvananthapuram: Embarrassed by the comments of some of its senior leaders hardly a month into office, the CPM has warned the ministers not to go public with anything related to policy without consulting the party and the coalition it leads.
The CPM state committee has put in place a code of conduct for its ministers, which cautions them to be extremely careful while talking to the media. The ministers are advised to study a matter in detail before commenting on it.
The party, however, said there was nothing new in the guidelines and its ministers were always required to abide by certain norms.
The ministers are required to be in their offices in Thiruvananthauram for five days a week. The guidelines remind them to be gentle to visitors and be prompt with the applications they receive. Any decision on the applications should be communicated to the applicant as soon as possible.
The ministers have a duty to ensure that the files do not mount in their offices and make their staff accountable.
The ministers should implement the pr omises laid out in the Left Democratic Front’s election manifesto and make sure that every decision was in accordance with the document. They must hold meetings with bureaucrats at regular intervals and keep a track of the issues being raised in these meetings.
They have a responsibility for raising all major issues before the party and discuss them in the relevant forum if necessary.
