Thrissur: no vacancy in morgue, woman's dead body kept amid patients for 12 hours Representative image

Mulankunnathukavu (Thrissur): An aged woman’s dead body was kept amid critically ill patients in the Government Medical College Hospital for 12 hours as the morgue was full.

Ammu, 75, from Karanjira died at 8 pm on Tuesday while being treated inside the neurosurgery intensive care unit. Her body was kept in the same cot the entire night before it was taken for postmortem. There were about 20 patients in the intensive care unit.

The authorities could not find a single slot in the morgue, where one of the two freezers had been dysfunctional for a month. Medical College authorities have been relying on morgues attached with the government hospitals in Thrissur and Kunnamkulam but even they were full on Tuesday.
