Kattanam, Alappuzha: The first day of the Malayalam month of Chingam came with a promise for Indira and her daughter Keerthi. They witnessed the foundation stone of their new home being laid on the spot where their dilapidated hut stood on Wednesday, thanks to actor Dileep.

Dileep, who spearheads the “Safe Home” project in association with Kerala Action Force, described the moment as one of love and virtue. The actor has been active in social service through the G P Charitable Trust which he formed in memory of his father. The trust has built over 60 houses in Ernakulam district for poor and helpless mothers.

The first house under the “Safe Home” statewide project will be built at Vathikulam near Mavelikkara for Indira and Keerti, whose miserable existence was featured in Malayala Manorama’s Sunday edition. Dileep and R Rajesh MLA inaugurated the statewide inauguration of the project on Wednesday.

The legislator inaugurated a meeting to mark the occasion. Kerala Action Force president Dr Tony Fernandes presided over the function while general secretary Dr C M Hyder Ali spoke.

Dileep and his collaborators decided to build the first home under the project for Indira and Keerthi after reading their story on Manorama.

The project and the function was organized by M Suresh, K Radhakrishna Menon, Anwar Karayi, A M Abdul Kareem, Jeevan Chacko, K J Joseph, K M Suneer, Azeez, Prince Kuriakose, Joy Kalappura, Narayanan and Rajeev Pai.

Kerala Action Force coordinator Joby Thomas, housing committee convener A S Ravichandran, Thekkekara panchayat president Shaila Lakshman, panchayat vice president G Viswanathan, block panchayat member Suja Soman Pillai, standing committee presidents Sreelekha Girieesh, Asha Suresh, R Unnikrishnan and panchyat member Mohanan Pillai attended the function along with hundreds of people.
