Malayalam filmmaker Vinayan has come out challenging a blog post by actor Mohanlal on the ongoing protest at JNU campus which is hogging headlines across the nation.

In a Facebook post in response to Mohanlal's article, Vinayan on Monday said the actor's argument will only help politicians who want to exploit the divisive trends in the country.

Mohanlal in his blog had come down heavily on the protesters at JNU and their sympathisers by comparing them with the soldiers of Indian army.

Countering the superstar's arguments, Vinayan said mixing up of patriotism with freedom of expression arises some suspicions.

"Anti-nationals must be punished. No doubt. But mixing up of patriotism with freedom of expression arises some suspicions. Similar doubts came to my mind when I read the blog written by respected Mohanlal," Vinayan said.

"When students who raised slogans against the government were branded as anti-nationals and put behind bars, voices were raised against it across the country. Media reacted to it by bringing out evidence that political leaders made gains out of the situation. The ensuing discussions and hullabaloos were against burial of truth and justice. Mohanlal's argument that such discussions and stirs should be stopped would only help political leaders who want to exploit the situation."

Hailing soldiers' efforts, Vinayan concluded his post saying if we want to live in India, it needs not only brave soldiers' will power, but also the mature administrators who can keep Indians together cutting across castes and religions.
