Niranjan Lt Col Niranjan with his two-year-old daughter Vismaya.

Mannarcad: The untimely demise of Lt Col Niranjan, who died while combating terrorists in Pathancote, has left his village, Elambulassery in shock.

Even though he used to come to the village only on holidays and special occasions, he was dear to all. He had come here last during Onam. His father’s brother Harikrishnan and his grandmother Padmavathy Amma lives in his ancestral home here.

During Onam, he had come here with his wife Dr Radhika and two-year-old daughter Vismaya. They had stayed for some time and also made visits to a few places.

Even though his vists were rare, he used to keep in touch with the family and had contacted them when he was promoted recently. His trips were further restricted since he was inducted into the NSG.
