Palakkad: The mortal remains of Lt. Col Niranjan Kumar who lost his life in the terror attack on Pathankot Naval base the other day will be brought here this afternoon.
The body will be brought to Victoria College Ground here by 3 pm by an Air Force flight. The district administrators and people's representatives will receive the body, which will be taken to Niranjan's ancestral house at Elambulassery via Mannarkadu by 5 pm.
The body will be kept at the house till 7 am on Tuesday for the public to pay their last respects. The Air Force officials directed to arrange a flight for carrying Niranjan's mortal remains as it takes over seven hours to reach Palakkad from Bengaluru by road.
The last rites of the brave soldier will be held on the south of the family's ancestral temple.
Chief Minister Oommen Chandy is likely to arrive at the ancestral house at Elambulassery at night. The body will be kept at Niranjan's uncle Harikrishnan also.
District administrators, including collector P. Marykutty, and people from all walks of life have been thronging Niranjan's ancestral house which is 18 km from Mannarkkad.
