Kozhikode: Around 546 kg of explosive material meant for use in making firecrackers was seized on Saturday at Vadakara as police raids continue across the state post the tragic Kollam temple fire.

The explosive material, including gunpowder and Pottasium Nitrate, was seized from a shop on Saturday afternoon by police, who raided it on a tip off.

A case under section 4 of Explosive Substances Act has been registered, police said.

No arrest had been made so far in this connection, though the persons behind storing of explosives had been identified, they said.

A huge quantity of 3,220 kg of firecrackers had been seized in various places in and around Kozhikode and six persons were held in raids on April 11 and 12.

The fire tragedy at the 100-year-old Puttingal Devi temple at Peravoor in Kollam had occurred during an unauthorised display of fireworks on April 10 after a spark from a firecracker fell on the storehouse containing crackers, in which over 100 people were killed and nearly 1000 injured.
