An unidentified gang tried to kidnap Thenhipalam SI M. Abhilash during a routine vehicle check.
The gang grabbed the sub-inspector as he had spotted the lethal weapons they possessed. The incident took place on the national highway at Kohinoor near Calicut University.
The gang moved towards Kozhikode side but left the car and SI on the road nearly one km ahead as a police team chased them. The assailants ran away from the spot.
The police seized the car and the weapons inside it.
