Representative graphicMuttom (Idukki): A hidden camera was recovered from a toilet of the district court complex here on Tuesday.
The high-end camera was found inside the toilet on the ground floor of the First Class Judicial Magistrate Court which has been used daily by hundreds of people including female staff, lawyers as well as the public.
The camera was placed on the toilet’s flush tank after tying it firmly using rubber bands against a steel scale. It was covered with a bath towel, the police said.
The incident came to light on Tuesday morning when a female staff spotted the towel on the dysfunctional flush tank. After being alerted by her, the other employees inspected the place and recovered the hidden camera.
They reported the matter to their superiors who filed a complaint with the Muttom police. A police team, led by Muttom SI S. Shine, reached the spot and took the camera into custody.
The police have launched an investigation after registering a case. The court would also inquire into the incident.
According to the police, it was an expensive camera equipped with modern features.
A team of Cyber Cell personnel and fingerprint experts inspected the place. The camera would be sent to the forensic science laboratory to check for any recorded footage in it.
It is learned that a set of fingerprints has been lifted from the devise. The police have already zeroed in on a number of suspects, the SI said.
The office staff at the court are in charge of the security of the complex at night. The complex, which houses nine courts, has only four toilets.
