Zakir HusainKochi: Police officers are also being included in an abduction case in which a CPM area secretary was named as first accused.
The investigating team has decided to include former assistant commissioner of Thrikkakkara, Bijo Alexander, in the case. He is now under suspension for allegedly amassing wealth beyond his means.
A businessman in Kochi had complained that following an altercation over business deals, he was abducted and threatened by people led by CPM Kalamassery area secretary Zakir Husain. Bijo forbade the businessman from entering the premises of a business in which he holds a share. Later the businessman was taken using force to the police station.
Even as charges were probed against Zakir Husain, charges against the former assistant commissioner was also started. Meanwhile, the second and third accused were arrested by the investigation team. Siddique and Faisal were arrested at the Ernakulam sub jail. The two are under remand for extortion.
The police had initially told that Zakir Husain had left the district but he is believed to be in Kalamassery. It is not known whether the police would arrest him until a court decides on an anticipatory bail. A move to arrest him under Kerala Anti-social Activities Prevention Act (KAAPA) was scuttled following political interference.
Husain is involved in 13 cases including one for assaulting a police officer.
