Thrissur: Inspector General Suresh Rajpurohit, director of the Kerala Police Academy, has not yet faced any action for letting his minor son drive his official car but a few policemen have been sent for jungle training in an apparent vengeful action for leaking out the video clip of the offense.

Five civil police officers have been included in the 19-member group sent for training inside the Sathyamangalam forest in Tamil Nadu. Jungle training is specifically meant for policemen from the battalions who have already received special commando training. Civil police officers are not sent for jungle training. The five cops were added to an already prepared list at the last moment.

These policemen ended up in the Rajpurohit’s bad books as he suspected that they shot his son’s illegal outing and leaked the clip to the media. The Inspector General had covertly questioned many policemen to track the origin of the clip.

One of the five policemen had requested to be avoided from the training since he was suffering from conjunctivitis, but his plea was not heeded. Others had sought leave in view of the Holy Week but in vain.

The police are yet to register a case against Rajpurohit for letting his son, a plus-one student, drive the official car on the academy campus at Ramavarmapuram. A vigilance court had directed the police to register a case but the IPS officer secured an injunction order from the High Court of Kerala.

The Thrissur Juvenile Justice Board has also directed the police to register a case but the Viyyur police is buying time, saying they have not received the order yet. The police had sought legal opinion on registering a case against the Inspector General but the top brass has instructed them not to do so, sources said.
