International space station to be visible tonight

Thiruvananthapuram: The International Space Station (ISS) would be visible to the people of the state on Wednesday evening for about six minutes after 7.04 pm. The ISS would make an appearance above the east-west Western Ghats.

The station can be easily spotted if clouds do not hamper the view.

What's ISS?

The ISS is a space station jointly built by the US, Russia, Canada, Japan, Brazil and six nations in the European Space Agency.

It travels along an orbit that is between 330 kilometres and 435 kilometres above earth.

It travels about 7.66 kms per second and would circle the earth in 92.69 minutes. It goes around the earth 15.54 times a day.

It weighs 4,19,455 Kgs and is 72.8 metres long and 108.5 metres wide.

About 935 square metres of the station is liveable space. It can accommodate six people and currently there are currently six people in the station.
