Manchester: An expatriate worker from Kerala died in a hospital in Wythenshawe area of Manchester city after being hit by a car.
Paul John (42), who worked with in-flight service provider Sky Chefs at the Manchester airport, was hit by a car while he was crossing the road near St John School at Wythenshawe. He was taking his daughter home from the school. The 10-year-old girl is still in hospital but her injuries are not serious.
A woman and her infant were also hit by the car. The police have arrested an 88-year-old man who drove the car. He was not hurt in the accident. The car stopped only after hitting a wall, witnesses have told the police. The accident spot has a speed limit of 20 kilometers.
John, who hails from Kudallur near Ayarkkunnam, was the only one who was seriously injured. He was taken to the Wythenshawe Hospital and later referred to the Salford Hope Hospital. He was put on life support for four days. The bleeding in his brain complicated his condition.
His wife Mini is working as a nurse in the Wythenshawe Hospital. Their elder daughter Kimberley goes to the Manchester Valley Range School.
John’s family said his organs would be donated. John’s siblings are also working in Britain.
