Adimali: A two-year-old boy was found floating in a well on the premises of his house at Parathode on Tuesday afternoon.
The boy, Christiano, was playing in the courtyard when his mother and grandmother were tending to his younger sibling at home. The woman raised an alarm when they could not spot the boy in the courtyard.
The neighbors and laborers working under the MNREGA scheme launched a search for the boy. They finally found him floating in the 30-foot wall. They lifted him from the well and rushed to a hospital but he could not be saved.
The boy must have followed his ball that bounced on to the net cast over the well. He perhaps crawled over the one-foot-high stone hedge around the wall and slipped into it.
Christiano’s father Deepu is working as a driver with a private firm in Kochi.
The Vellathooval police have prepared an inquest and handed over the boy’s body to the relatives after conducting a post-mortem at the Taluk Hospital.
The funeral was held at the cemetery attached with the Parathode St George Forane Church on Wednesday morning.
