Abu Dhabi: The United Arab Emirates' (UAE) second consulate general office will start functioning in Thiruvananthapuram, the capital of Kerala.
The office, located at Manacaud on the outskirts of the city, will house a visa, immigration and attestation service point to expedite job-related documentation, officials said.
Jamal Hussein Al Zaabi, who has been serving as the first secretary at the UAE Embassy in Hanoi, will be the first Consul-General to Kerala.
At present, the UAE has three diplomatic missions in India including the embassy in New Delhi.
The Consulate General’s office in Thiruvananthapuram, which will be second one in India apart from the office functioning in Mumbai, is expected to cater to not only Kerala, but also to the neighboring states.
The UAE is the fifth country, after Maldives, Germany, Russia and Sri Lanka, and the first Gulf country to set up a consulate in Kerala.
Top officials and diplomats from both sides will be present on the occasion.
The opening of the new consulate is also expected boost the growing bilateral relations between the two countries in all sectors, officials said.
