Tiff over staring led to Keralite woman techie's murder in Infosys office? Rasila Raju.

Pune: A 26-year-old security guard, nabbed for the murder of a 24-year-old Keralite woman IT professional of Infosys in the company's Pune office, has confessed to the crime, the police said. A police officer also said that K. Rasila Raju, a native of Payimbra in Kozhikode, was strangled to death by the guard after a tiff.

Rasila was found dead Sunday night in a conference room of the office at Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park, Hinjewadi, Pune. Police took Bhabhen Saikia, an Assam native, into custody from Mumbai while he was trying to escape to his native place in Assam.

According to an assistant commissioner of police who is investigating the case, Saikia killed Rasila in a fit of rage. The guard entered the office room where Rasila was working and stared at her. Angered by his act, the woman techie asked Saikia to not stare at her. Saikia denied that he was staring at her and Rasila threatened him that she would complain against him to the authorities. As the argument became intense, Saikia allegedly murdered Rasila using a computer cord.

Suspect arrested in Mumbai

Rasila, who was working as a systems engineer with Infosys, was found dead after she was allegedly strangulated and was hit hard on the face, the police said.

"On the basis of the CCTV footage from the company premises and other clues, we zeroed down on the security guard, who after the incident, fled and now has been held in Mumbai," Arun Waikar, senior police inspector with Hinjawadi Police Station, had said earlier in the day.

According to the police, the incident might have taken place around 5 pm, but police received the call around 8 pm Sunday night.

ACP Vaishali Jadhav-Mane had told PTI Sunday night that the techie was working in the conference room on the ninth floor of Infosys's Phase-II campus whereas her two team mates were online from Bengaluru.

"Her manager was trying to call her, but there was no response. He then called and asked a security guard to go and check, and when the security guard went to see her, the woman was found lying on the floor in an unconscious state in the conference room," the officer had said.

A case has been registered under the section of 302 (murder) and further investigation is on, said police adding the process of post-mortem is underway.

Infosys statement

Meanwhile, Infosys said in a statement, "We are saddened and shocked at this unfortunate incident and the loss of our colleague. Our prayers and sympathies are with our employee's family and friends. We are focused on assisting the police with their investigation and providing all possible support to her family."
