Chennai: Before heading to Bengaluru to surrender at a court at the Parappana Agrahara jail, AIADMK chief V.K. Sasikala Wednesday took her own time to say farewell to her beloved leaders - 'Amma' Jayalalithaa and 'Puratchi Thalaivar' MGR - in Chennai Wednesday.
The 62-year-old leader, who was locked in a bitter tussle with acting chief minister O. Panneerselvam for Tamil Nadu's CM post, took the inevitable journey to the Karnataka capital after the Supreme Court, earlier in the day, refused to give her further time to surrender.
She left Poes Garden residence of late Jayalalithaa around 11.45 am. But she did not go to Bengaluru straight. Sasikala's first stopover was at the Jaya memorial at Marina Beach in Chennai.
At the memorial, Sasikala put up a brave face and made her way through the crowd of supporters that included a sobbing former minister Gokula Indira and party's new deputy general secretary and her nephew T.T.V. Dinakaran.
There, she paid floral tributes to the late leader and stood there with folded hands muttering something. Then, we saw an aggressive move.
Sasikala bent down and hit her hand fiercely at the memorial. She stood up, continued to mutter and went down again to slam her hand forcefully at the memorial amid loud cheer from her supporters.
What she did was a 'mighty vow', AIADMK tweeted.
The party then tweeted in Tamil, which can be translated into this, “Chinnamma swears that she would find her way out of the three evils that did her in - conspiracy, cheating and unfortunate events.”
She also took a pledge to destroy O. Panneerselvam and her other enemies, reports said. Panneerselvam revolted against Sasikala, setting up his own team in AIADMK, forcing her to pack MLAs supporting her to a resort at Kuvathur, on the outskirts of Chennai.
After her aggressive and emotional act at the Jaya memorial, Sasikala went to the Ramapuram residence of party founder M.G. Ramachandran, popularly known as MGR, and briefly meditated before his portrait.
She also paid homage to a life size statue of the former matinee idol at the residence before leaving for Bengaluru to surrender before the court in Parappana Agrahara jail.
She would be now undergoing jail term in the Rs 66 crore disproportionate assets case, in which the top court convicted late Jayalalithaa as well.
