The Forest Department in Sulthan Bathery, Wayanad, has begun preparations to capture a rogue elephant, identified as Thathur Tusker (TT-1) or Muttikomban, which has been causing terror by raiding crops and killing two farmers who attempted to drive it away. A kraal, a heavy timber enclosure for housing captured wild animals, is being constructed at the Muthanga Elephant Camp for the first time in nine years to confine the elephant once apprehended. The operation involves multiple teams of forest officials, veterinary experts, and kumki elephants stationed to prevent the tusker from entering human settlements, while thermal drones and sensor-based fence monitoring systems are being used to track its movements and deter it from further crop destruction. This action follows an order from the Chief Wildlife Warden due to the elephant's consistent crop raiding and threat to human life.
