The Joseph–Shailaja rivalry has been central to Peravoor’s political landscape for years. Shailaja first won the seat in 2006, while Joseph turned the tables in 2011, setting up a closely fought contest in subsequent elections.
The LDF is predicted to maintain dominance in Kannur, winning six to eight seats, while the UDF is expected to improve its performance, securing three to five.

In the Peravoor constituency, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) is positioning K. K. Shailaja as their candidate to challenge the incumbent and KPCC president Sunny Joseph, who has been victorious since 2011. Though labelled as a UDF pocket borough, Peravoor back then was never quite like the neighbouring Irikkur, which returned K C Joseph eight times.
Peravoor Assembly constituency is a UDF stronghold
K K Shailaja will contest from Peravoor, setting up a high-stakes clash with Sunny Joseph in the upcoming assembly elections.
Shailaja has contested five Assembly elections and won four, serving as an MLA for 20 years.
