Preparations are afoot to conduct the fourth edition of the Kochi-Muziris Biennale (KMB), which is country's unique international contemporary-art event. The earlier three editions of the biennale, which showcases select artworks from across the globe in tune with a curatorial theme, have consistently been futuristic even as they tend to unveil the historicity of the south-west India of ancient times of Muziris in the Sangam era.
Renowned artist Anita Dube is the curator of the upcoming biennale that will begin on December 12 and conclude on March 29, housing exhibits and hosting an array of cultural events in more than a dozen venues across Kochi and Muziris, which is around Paravur-Kodungallur region, 20-40 km north of the city. Lucknow-born Dube, 60, is an alumnus of Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda and has been a cultural activist and feminist for the past three decades.
KMB, which had its inaugural-edition organisers sharing apprehensions about the success of the venture, is now a celebrated event on the global art map. The 2016-17 edition of the biennale had clocked 6 lakh footfalls. The upcoming edition will have close to a 100 main visual artists.
