A blend of India-European flavors
Though the new Grand i10 was designed specifically to cater to the needs of European markets, it is one of the top-sellers in Hyundai India's line-up. For that very reason, the new model’s design is a blend of Indian and European flavors. It was designed and developed at the Hyundai Motor Europe Technical Center in Germany, but several engineers of Indian origin were part of the team responsible for the face-lift.
India-spec i10
The Grand i10 had hit the Indian markets much before the launch of its European sibling. The company had made sure that specific changes to suit local tastes and preferences were included in the India-spec i10. The key changes included the rear AC vents and the wider rear doors and window glass. They were incorporated into the Indian version based on customer feedback. These changes were later added to the models rolled out in other markets as well.
The all-new Grand i10
The updated version carries a number of cosmetic and mechanical changes compared to the outgoing model. The exterior of the new model pretty much remains the same. The key updates include: fresh bumpers, hexagonal grille with honeycomb mesh, fresh fog lamp cluster, daytime running lights, new alloy wheels, and a thick black strip housing the rear fog lamps.
Stylish interiors
All variants feature airbags and anti-lock braking system (ABS). The major additions on the Sportz variant is the new touch screen infotainment system and audio controls on the steering wheel. Notably, a couple of features like the electric folding wing mirrors are absent in some of the models.
Upmarket feel
If the exteriors sport an aesthetically pleasing look, the interiors contribute to the car’s more substantial and premium feel. The plush comfortable seats, soft-touch door trim, sporty dash board and multi-functional steering wheel add a dashing look to the interior that wear a majestic color combination of black and beige.
Ample space
Extended wheelbase ensures ample knee and leg room for rear-seat occupants. The air-conditioning vents will also add to their comfort. Such a luxurious feature cannot be found even in most of the mid-sized sedans, let alone the other models in this segment. Fabric seats are better-shaped and comfortable.
Smooth, solid engine
The diesel variant is no longer inferior to their petrol counterparts. Under the hood, the U2 CRDi engine is solid, smooth and quiet. The three-cylinder engine churns out more power in comparison with the older version. The 1.2-liter petrol engine generates 19.4kgm of torque at 1,750 rpm. It is the major reason for the vehicle’s enhanced pickup and drivability. Moreover, frequent gear shifting is not necessary. The engine churns out a peak power of 75PS.
Penchant for precision
The gear shifts are smooth and responsive. Like all other Hyundai models, the motorized power steering is swift and makes it feel light. In a nutshell, the all-new Grand i10 is attractive and delightful to drive.
Price
Hyundai has priced the Grand i10 face-lift quite competitively. It comes with a price tag starting from Rs 4.66 and Rs 5.78 lakh for the entry-level petrol and diesel variants respectively.
