Maruti Suzuki Ignis is smart and funky Maruti Suzuki Ignis

Maruti Suzuki has launched the latest addition to its Nexa lineup - the Ignis. The company has prudently compared it’s new offering to a feature-rich smartphone. Nevertheless, the Ignis is an ideal choice for the tech-savvy millennial who rely too much on smartphones.

The fancy tablet-like dashboard console which is currently available only on Mercedes models and other cars on the same platform is enough to lend credibility to the claims made by the carmaker. The smartphone integration feature of the infotainment system is pretty smart as it offers connectivity experience with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and MirrorLink.

Retro, youthful appeal

The decision to retain the original style of the classic design of iconic cars of 80s or much older models does not seem coincidental. As cars are getting smarter, strategic thinking might have injected into the design process to preserve the memories of a bygone era. However, though this classic design philosophy evokes nostalgia, it, in fact, enhances the youthful looks of the Ignis. The single frame grille, U-shaped LED projector headlamp, minimal use of chrome inserts, and flared wheel arches are the other key features that add to the drive quality and the boldness of the Ignis.

Premium features

The Ignis' interior is as contemporary as the exterior. The cabin comes in a highly contrasting black and ivory white dual-color theme. The central console is equipped with satellite navigation, audio system and reverse camera along with a host of premium features. Cockpit-inspired switches and the AC panel are the other eye grabbers. The door handles and other panels inside that are color-coordinated to the exterior stand out.

Spacious and luxurious

The smartly-designed cabin of the Ignis offers good legroom and storage space. The seats flaunt excellent cushioning and are extremely comfortable. The boot capacity at 265 liters can be extended with 60:40 rear split. The compact size and swift handling make it an ideal choice for daily use in cities.

Devise-friendly

The technology inside includes the sophisticated instrument cluster with Android and Apple compatibility. There is also a very intuitive voice command system. The touchscreen interface of the center console, which houses an audio-navigation unit, comes with integrating phone connectivity to make life easier on the move.

No compromise on safety aspects

Suzuki has packed in a whole bunch of safety features in the Ignis with an eye on future requirements. All variants get twin airbags, anti-lock braking system (ABS) and Electronic Brake-force Distribution systems. The Ignis is probably the best when it comes to safety features in this segment.

Auto Gear Shift

The Ignis has Auto Gear Shift (AGS) in both diesel and petrol variants. It functions better than the same feature offered by any other model in the segment, ensuring a comfortable ride. The manual/automatic transmission in the Ignis can match the performance of any fully automatic cars. Notably, there is no diesel automatic model currently available in the segment.

Fun drive

Both the petrol and diesel variants are very nimble and fun to ride. The handling and drivability are top-notch. The vibrations are well in check even while hitting a speed of 160 kmph. It is easy to handle and maneuver comfortably through city traffic besides making parking a lot easier.

Maruti Suzuki Ignis

Great mileage

The 1.3L 55.2 kW petrol engine promises an impressive mileage of 26.80 km/l, while the 1.2L 61 kW petrol engine offers 20.89 km/l.

Customization options

Maruti Suzuki is offering a range of customization options for the Ignis such as the color-coded interior trim, roof wraps, fog lamp garnish, skid plates, and add-ons like contrast color spoilers and outside rear-view mirrors.

Competitive pricing

The petrol version is priced between Rs 4.59 lakh and Rs 6.30 lakh, while the diesel variant carries a price tag ranging between Rs 6.39 lakh and Rs 7.46 lakh.
