MultixPerhaps no such family vehicle has been launched in India so far. The vehicle is a combination of a pick-up, capable of carrying half a ton load; a family vehicle that would allow five to travel in comfort; a generator that can light up a house; a water pump, and a welding unit. Multix from Polaris is a vehicle that can morph into many roles and shapes.
Small size
The size of a small auto rickshaw, the vehicle can be purchased for Rs3 lakhs.
Truck maker Eicher is collaborating with the US-based Polaris to launch the Multix in India. Even though Polaris specializes in making all-terrain vehicles, Multix is not a four-wheel drive; it is a family vehicle.
While five can sit in the vehicle, its 418 L boot offers enough space to load up goods. The X port near the engine offers power to run various tools and using it, the vehicle morphs into a water pump, generator and welding machine.
The vehicle is beautiful and the double cabin that can seat five comes mated with the loading bay. The body is made of fibre and the tubular frame offers strength. It performs well in bad roads as well and the short stubby bonnet is simple in design. The rear engine frees up the bonnet for storing the spare tyre.
The vehicle has lots of space and leg and head room are ample. The simple dashboard carries a simple storage space. The high-end model carries a good music system.
MultixThe Greaves four-stroke, single-cylinder engine is 510.7 cc in capacity. The direct injection engine produces 9.92 ps of power at 3000 rpm. Torque is 27.1 nm at 1400-2200 rpm. The engine is mated to a four-speed gear box and even without power steering, maneuvering the vehicle is easy. Fuel efficiency is claimed to be about 28.45 kilometers to the liter.
The vehicle comes with independent suspension that is well suited to Indian roads. It can easily cross over big humps and deep gutters without those inside knowing it. The 225mm ground clearance rivals jeeps.
The Multix also allows you to expand the boot by folding the rear seats to free up 1918 liters of storage area. A generator kit can be purchased that would help to generate 3KW of power to operate anything that runs on electricity.
