Apply online for various programs of Indian Statistical Institute

The Indian Statistical Institute headquartered in Kolkata is an institute of National Importance that offers bachelor's, postgraduate and research programs, not just in Statistics but in many other subjects too. The online applications for admission to various courses in the academic year 2023 – 24 could be submitted from 10 March until 5 April. The grand old institute that was established ninety-one years ago has centres in major Indian cities like Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Tezpur and Hyderabad. The alumni of this prestigious institute have been able to achieve successful careers.

The entrance exam that is scheduled on 14 May will be held in 66 exam centres around the country including Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi, Coimbatore, Bengaluru, Chennai, Mumbai and Delhi. Most students will get a stipend too.

Programs

Besides the monthly stipend, there would be yearly grants for each course.

3-year B.Stat (Hons): There are 63 + 16 (supernumerary seats for women) seats for this course. The applicants should have studied Mathematics as a core subject in plus two. This course is offered at the main campus in Kolkata. The students would be provided with a monthly stipend of Rs 5000.

3-year B Math (Hons): There are 63 + 16 seats up for grabs. The eligibility is plus two with Maths as the core subject. The course is available at the Bengaluru centre. The monthly stipend for this course is Rs 5000.

2-year M Stat: The total number of seats is 36. The applicants need to have a bachelor’s degree in any subject. It is available in Kolkata and Bengaluru centres. The students will get a monthly stipend of Rs 8000.

2-year MS in Quantitative Economics: There are 56 seats up for grabs. The eligibility is a bachelor’s degree in any subject. The course is offered in Delhi and Kolkata. Meanwhile, the stipend is Rs 8000.

2-year MS in Quality Management Science: Candidates who have a bachelor’s degree in any subject could apply to 20 seats. This course is available at the Bengaluru and Hyderabad centres. The students will get a monthly stipend of Rs 8000.

2-year MS in Library and Information Science: There are 12 seats up for grabs. The applicants need to have a bachelor’s degree in any subject. The course is available in Bengaluru. The monthly stipend is Rs 8000.

2-year MTech in Computer Science: Those who have BTech in any stream or any master's degree after completing plus two with Maths as the core subject can apply to the 45 seats. The course is offered at the Kolkata centre. The candidates will get a monthly stipend of Rs 12,400. Those who have achieved the stipulated score in the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering need not sit for the entrance test. However, the applications have to be submitted at the stipulated time. Besides, such candidates should attend the interview too.

2-year MTech in Quality, Reliability and Operations Research: The candidates can apply to 37 seats. The applicants should have a Master’s degree in Statistics/ Master’s degree in Maths that includes Statistics/ BTech/ equivalent professional qualification (plus two with Chemistry and Physics). The course is offered at the Kolkata centre. The monthly stipend is Rs 12,400.

1-year PG Diploma in Statistical Methods and Analytics: Those who have bachelor’s degree or BTech or equivalent qualification can apply for the 61 seats. The course is available in Chennai and Tezpur.

1-year PG Diploma in Agricultural and Rural Management with Statistical Methods and Analytics: There are 18 seats up for grabs. The eligibility for applying for this course is bachelor’s degree in any subject. Besides, the candidates should have studied Maths or Statistics in plus two. The course is offered at the centre in Giridih (Jharkhand).

1 year Post Graduate Diploma in Applied Statistics: There is a total of 30 seats. The applicants need to have a bachelor’s degree in any subject. Besides, the candidate should have studied Maths in plus two. This course is offered via the online platform Coursera.

Those who complete their qualifying exams before 31 July 2023 can apply for the programs. Besides the written entrance test, there would be an interview for most courses.

Junior Research Fellowship

Aspirants can apply for PhD – Junior Research Fellowship programs in Statistics, Maths, Quantitative Economics, Computer Science, Quality Reliability and Operations Research, Physics and Applied Maths, Biological Science, Library and Information Sciences and Sociology. These are available at various centres across the country. The duration of this course is 6 + 1 years. The selected candidates would get at least Rs 31,000 as a fellowship.

How to apply

After reading the prospectus, log into www.isical.ac.in to submit online applications. The application fee is Rs 1500. Meanwhile, women who do not come under the reservation category need to pay Rs 1000. The application fee for candidates who belong to the scheduled categories, Economically Weaker Sections and persons with disabilities is Rs 750. The candidates must note that bank charges would be additionally charged.
