No regrets, Major Ravi stands firm on comments Major Ravi

Even as Malayalam filmmnaker Major Ravi's comments against a media person have taken the social media by storm after he termed her a sex worker, the director has come out with an explanation on the circumstances that triggered his statement.

"I haven't insulted any channel or any media person by taking names. Some websites had reported that I had passed derogatory remarks against a media person by taking her name. This is totally rubbish. I have not watched the media debate in question fully. I was only reacting on the basis of news reports," Major Ravi told Onmanorama.

The incident that sparked the row emerged during a discussion held on the sidelines of the 'navathi' celebrations of renowned Malayalam poet Akkitham. The controversial statement came up during a debate on culture.

"If the woman termed Goddess Durga as sex worker, she too belonged to the same category, I had said. I don't regret making such comments against a woman. If a woman can make such statements, my reaction would be on this line," Major Ravi said.

The director further said that all are Indians and that he did not see any differences on the basis of caste or community.

"All are equal and everyone should desist from making comments on Gods, especially on the social media. That stance itself will bring down the tension and enmity. Speaking against Gods is equivalent to abusing a whole social community," Major Ravi said.
