Director Vysakh, who is basking in the huge success of his Mohanlal-starrer Pulimurugan, said actor Mammootty, the other 'Big M' in Malayalam cinema, was the first to congratulate him.
“It was Mammootty who gave me a gift first for the success of Pulimurugan. He called me on the second day after the movie's release and expressed his happiness lavishly. He also talked about the new markets opened by Pulimurugan's success,” Vysakh told Vanitha in an interview published in the latest edition of the Malayalam fortnightly.
“I am more than happy to say that I am a find of Mammootty. When I met him for Pokkiri Raja, he asked me – do you direct well? That conversation is still fresh in my mind. Whenever I make a movie, I worry whether director Joshiy sir and Mammukka would like it,” Vysakh told Vanitha.
Vysakh had worked as an assistant director of Joshiy before making his debut as director with 2010 Pokkiri Raja, starring Mammootty and Prithviraj, and it went onto become a blockbuster.
Pulimurugan was his seventh film as director and the Mohanlal-starrer became the first ever Malayalam film to cross Rs 100 crore in gross collection, breaking all previous records of the industry.
