Onam is one of the most exciting times for Malayali movie buffs as it's during this time that the biggest releases of the year hit theaters. Like last year, Onam 2016 will also witness the release of some of the most awaited films.

Here, Onmanorama brings the complete list of Malayalam movies to watch out for during this Onam:

Janatha Garage

After Mohanlal's recent Telugu outing, Manamantha aka Vismayam, another Telugu Mohanlal starrer - Janatha Garage - will release on September 1, Thursday. The movie, directed by Koratala Siva, has Jr NTR in the lead role. While Mohanlal plays a pivotal role, Unni Mukundan will be seen playing the main antagonist. Nithya Menen and Samantha are the female leads in the film. Rahman will playing the role of Mohanlal's brother in the movie.

Oppam

Oppam marks Mohanlal's first original Malayalam release in 2016. The movie, scripted and directed by Priyadarshan, will hit theatres on September 8, Thursday. Touted as an investigative thriller, Mohanlal essays the role of Jayaraman, a visually challenged man. South Indian actress Vimala Raman makes a comeback into the Malyalam industry as the female lead of Oppam.

Oozham

After he 2013 hit Memories, Oozham brings together director Jeethu Joseph and Prithviraj. The movie, written by Jeethu himself, is slated to release on September 8, Thursday. A revenge drama, the film will see Prithviraj donning the role of Soorya. The film also has Balachandra Menon, Seetha, Neeraj Madhav, Divya Pillai, Rasna, Pasupathy and Jayaprakash as other major players.

Welcome to Central Jail

Dileep is an actor who makes sure to keep the box office ringing during every festive season. And this Onam season, Dileep brings yet another festival entertainer through Welcome to Central Jail. The film, directed by Sundar Das and scripted by Benny P Nayarambalam, is touted as a comedy entertainer. Sunder Das and Dileep are joining hands together after a gap of 13 years. The film, which stars Vedhika opposite the 'Janapriya Nayakan', is expected to hit theatres on the Onam day.

Kochavva Paulo Ayyappa Coelho

Kochavva Paulo Ayyappa Coelho aka KPAC is in the much awaited list as it marks the production debut of Kunchacko, bringing back his home banner Udaya Studio after a gap of 30 years. KPAC, written and directed by National Award-winner Sidhartha Siva, revolves around the title characters, Kochavva and Ayyappa Das, and how writer Paulo Coelho's popular work The Alchemist influences them. The movie will hit the theatres this September, as an Onam special release. Anusree, KPAC Lalitha, Nedumudi Venu, Mukesh, Suraj Venjarammoodu and Aju Varghese will essay supporting roles.

Ore Mugham

After the success of Kunjiramayanam and Adi Kapyare Koottamani, Dhyan Sreenivasan and Aju Varghese will be back together in debutant director Sajith’s Ore Mugham. Billed as a campus based thriller, the film is expected to hit theatres during the Onam season. The story is set in the 80s and Dhyan's stylish look is the biggest talking point regarding the flick. Jewel Mary, Deepak Parambol, Prayaga Martin, Gayathri Suresh and Renji Panikker play other important roles in the movie.

Oru Muthassi Gadha

After the 2014 superhit Ohm Shanthi Oshaana, (OSO) starring Nivin Pauly and Nazriya Nazim, filmmaker Jude Anthony Joseph is back in action with Oru Muthassi Gadha (OMG). Touted as a fun-filled family entertainer, the film revolves around two grandmothers. The movie will hit the screens by September 15, Thursday. Suraj Venjarammoodu, Lena, Aparna Balamurali, Vineeth Sreenivasan, Renji Panicker, Lal Jose, Aju Varghese, and Rajeev Pillai will play important roles.
