Radio Mango RJ Hunt zeroes in on Naveen Naveen Raj emerged winner in the RJ Hunt, Jahnavi Nair clinched the second spot while Reshmi Menon stood third

Kochi: The two-month-long hunt for the State’s best talent in radio jockeying on college campuses, conducted by Radio Mango in association with Vodafone, was concluded with a dazzling finale here on Saturday.

Naveen Raj, a native of Kochi, emerged winner in the RJ Hunt. Jahnavi Nair, a resident of Malayinkeezhu near Thiruvananthapuram, clinched the second spot while Reshmi Menon of Aroor, Alappuzha, stood third. 

Around 9,000 aspiring radio jockeys from as many as 80 campuses in the State were auditioned during the competition spread over 50 days. The final featured six zonal winners. 

Naveen Raj received a purse of Rs 50,000 besides a job offer from Radio Mango. The second and third-place winners were given a cash prize of Rs 25,000 and Rs 10,000 respectively. The other finalists were Dilna Sabu (Kozhikode), R. Keerthi (Kochi), and A. V. Anusree (Thiruvananthapuram). 

Panel of judges comprised actress and former Radio Mango RJ Rachana Narayanankutty, Radio Mango director (programmes) Ravi Nair, and RJ Oscar of Thrissur station. 

The prizes were handed over to the winners by Rachana, singer Job Kurian, Vodafone Kerala deputy general manager (Marketing Operations) B. Rajesh, PPG Group chairman and MD Dr. Pathrose Parathuvayalil, and Yamaha Motors India Sales Private Ltd zonal sales head Anil Chandran.  

Naveen, the son of V. Rajesh of ‘Saishree’, SI Apartments, Edapally, and S. Sreelatha, training centre manager, SBT Chitoor, is a mechanical engineering student of KVM College of Engineering, Cherthala. 

Runner-up Jahnavi is a BA English student of Mar Ivanios College, Thiruvananthapuram. Her parents are, Dr P. K. Rajasekharan, news editor Mathrubhumi Malappuram unit, of Ayappa Sadanam, Karipur, Malayinkeezhu, and Radhika C. Nair. 

Reshmi Menon is the daughter of Chirapurath N. Jayapalan Menon of Aroor and Raji, and wife of P. B. Nidheesh. 

In connection with the grand finale, a musical show by Agam band and Job Kurian was held. Thampanoor Suresh, who became popular with a song in the movie Action Hero Biju, presented the hit number. 

Pratheesh, the winner of the first edition of the ‘RJ Hunt’, is currently a radio jockey at the Radio Mango Kannur station.
