Ranjith's 'Leela' creates history through online release

Leela, directed by Ranjith created history by becoming the first Indian film to be released simultaneously in the theater as well as online. The film was accorded a huge reception by the Keralite diaspora. Hundreds of people enjoyed the movie on the released date on Friday itself and had posted raving reviews about the movie.

Leela, is based on a short story penned by noted litterateur-scenarist Unni R and was produced under the banner of Capitol Movies. The movie revolves around the theme of an average Keralite's inclination towards women and liquor. The subject is portrayed in the movies through the wayward life of a reckless man named Kuttiyappan.

Biju Menon showcased a splendid performance as Kuttiyappan. Actors like Vijayaraghavan, Jagadeesh, Indrans and others essayed some memorable performances, the movie enthusiasts said.

Unni R is said to have repeated the deftness in the screenplay which he has displayed his short story. When it was coupled with the craftsmanship of Ranjith, Malayalam industry got yet another wonderful film, viewers said. The expatriates have not forgotten to remind others about the film through social media. Prizes have also been announced for those who post photos of families watching the film together.

The film was released on the internet by reelax.in under Eram group headquartered in Dubai. The new system opens the door for movie buffs anywhere in the world to watch the film. After registering in the site an amount of 45 dirham (15 USD) has to be paid to watch the movie in HD quality.

The movie can be watched any time within 24 hours after registration. Since the IP address of the computer will be displayed as watermark on the screen those who attempt to record the film can be tracked down.
