Director Sanal Kumar Sasidharan hit the headlines recently after winning the Hivos Tiger Award at the International Film Festival of Rotterdam 2017 for his film, Sexy Durga.
But it seems some are not really happy about it. Apparently, Sanal Kumar received threats from some radical Hindutva activists.
Sasidharan took to Facebook and shared a screenshot of a WhatsApp conversation from a man who claims to be a Rahul Shrivastava, the president of an organization called the Hindu Swabhiman Sangh.
He wrote: ''I am getting constant threats from a person, who claims to be Rahul Shrivastava, president of Hindu Swabhiman Sangh. His problem is that my film has hurt his religious sentiments by adding the word "Sexy" before the name of "Goddess Durga".
“When I told him that my film has nothing to do with Goddess Durga, he asked me why I didn’t it as name "Sexy Sreeja". When I said "Sreeja" is also a goddess’s name, he told me that his wife has the same name. Arrey bhai.. Use the same logic here, please.
NB: The second screen shot is of a WhatsApp group this person leads. They call themselves as saviors of our culture. I am ashamed to post the comments in that group.'' (sic.)
