Sai Pallavi is back! The Tamil girl who tapped her way into instant stardom in Malayalam cinema with the portrayal of the bubbly Malar in Premam has decided to shed the persona while she shoots for Kali.
Her new avatar, Anjali, does not even dance, she says. Malar fans can expect Sai Pallavi as a bold and beautiful Malayali girl next door when Sameer Thahir’s Kali hits the screens this month end. Pallavi talks about her role as Dulquer Salmaan’s love interest and later wife.
Say 'tata' to Malar
‘Malar’ was banned on the sets of Kali. No one in the crew would call me Malar anymore. I was just Anjali.
On trademark pimples, hair
I will not be sporting pimples anymore. Malayali boys seem to have lost the taste for it. But there is no compromise on my hair. I am not going for any makeover that requires my hair straightened.
My new character does not have to be in sari. Anjali will go to college in a pair of jeans and kurta or churidar. After all, she is not a teacher like Malar.
Course of love
Anjali has a bold love affair that proceeds to marriage.
About leading men
George (the protagonist in Premam) and Siddharth (the protagonist in Kali) are poles part. But Nivin Pauly and Dulquer Salmaan are more similar because they are such close friends.
I am into the sixth year of my medicine course in Georgia. It is getting hectic with exams. I had to leave the shoot midway to fly to Georgia to write an exam. I will come to India next on March 26, when Kali is released.
My studies explain my absence from any new projects. I need both studies and films. When I do films, I take a break from my studies. I will do so again if I get impressive projects.
I have started talking in Malayalam on the set. I can’t help it when Malayalis love me so much. Even when I was doing no movies, I couldn't to concentrate on my studies in Georgia. I always get calls from Kerala, inviting me for inaugural functions, public events or award nights. I used to have many one-day flash visits to Kerala.
Kali is produced by Ashiq Usman, Shaiju Khalid and Sameer Thahir under the banner of Handmade Films. The movie is shot by Girish Gangadharan.
