Family dramas have always been the mainstay of Mollywood and director Siddique has given us a number of such movies with heart-thumping romance, rip-roaring comedy and gut-wrenching drama. A similar fare from the director’s kitty, Fukri, is an out-and-out entertainer which revolves around an aristocratic family of the same name.
The head of the family is Sulaiman Fukri (Siddique), a strait-laced man who believes that home is his private fiefdom, and the family members, his bondsmen. Though a noble soul, Fukri has his reservations when it comes to matters of the heart (read religion).
The story begins when Fukri has a fallout with his son and that’s where Lucky, aka Lukeman Ali Fukri (Jayasurya), comes into the picture.
Fukri,which was supposedly a Christmas release, got delayed because of the theater strike in Kerala. And it seems director Siddique had planned it for the festive season.
Coming to the performances, Jayasurya is at his usual best. His strikingly different get-ups in all his recent movies bear testimony to the actor’s range and flexibility. Actor Siddique is perfect as the no-nonsense family head.
Prayaga Martin as Nafsi and Anu Sithara as Alia have made good use of their little screen space. Newcomer John Kaippallil, who plays the role of Obeid, seems to be a promising star who can definitely handle more challenging roles. Bhagath Manuel as Jayasurya's friend somehow reminds of his character in Malarvadi Arts Club.
Vijay Ulaganath's cinematography and the BGM by Gopi Sundar grab our attention. But it's Joseph Nellickal who takes the cake for making the movie an amazing piece of art.
Keeping apart the whirlwind climax, Fukri is a decent movie that is sure to provide for some wholesome family fun.
