In yet another attempt to recreate the traditional boat song of Kerala, 'Kuttanadan punjayile', musicians Shankar Tucker and Vidya Iyer have come together, punctuating the Malayalam folk song with English lyrics.
The revamped 'vanjipaattu' is placed in scenic Kerala, with the sounds of Idakka and Tabla merging with other instrumentals. Singer Vidya is at ease performing this number and doesn't mince her words in Malayalam.
The video features the singer, the percussionist and glimpses of Shankar Tucker in the background along with a couple of women in Mohiniyattam attires swaying to the rhythm of the music.
Shankar Tucker, a performing Clarinetist, has shared the stage with maestros like Ustad Zakir Hussain and Hariprasad Chaurasia. He blends the sounds of his music with classical tunes bringing out newer perspectives in the world of sound. Vidya Iyer along with her sister vandana Iyer, has collaborated with Shankar Tucker before.
