Sasikala, 'Thala' AjithChennai: Speculation is now rife as to who will helm the AIADMK in Tamil Nadu, post J Jayalalithaa's demise, with the names of both her confidante Sasikala Natarajan and popular Tamil film star 'Thala' Ajith being mentioned as possible successors.
While reports on Sasikala's accession to power has been doing the rounds for some time, Ajith burst into zone of contention when he canceled his film shoot and rushed to Chennai following Jaya's death.
Although Ajith has no prior experience in politics, he was said to be close to Jayalalithaa. He canceled his film shoot in Bulgaria and attended Jaya's funeral at Marina Beach along with his family Tuesday.
Manorama News reported earlier Wednesday that a decision on Sasikala heading the party could come soon.
Onmanorama could not independently confirm any of these reports.
Though O. Panneerselvam was elected as the chief minister hours after Jaya's death, it's unlikely that he will lead the ruling party.
Panneerselvam had stepped into Jaya’s shoes twice earlier when she was convicted in corruption cases. As finance minister, he was given charge of the portfolios held by Jayalalithaa after she was admitted to Apollo Hospitals on September 22.
